The Breaking New Ground Landscape Partnership Scheme is half way through and has achieved some exciting things already. We’ve trained over 250 people in heritage building skills, re-introduced a species of frog that went extinct in the UK 25 years ago, scanned Thetford forest with ground breaking LiDAR technology, held the Big Brecks Fest, planted some new pine lines and got many people out into the landscape who hadn’t appreciated it before.
Over the next year and half remaining, our host of projects will continue to take place in the area – this is your chance to enjoy and explore all The Brecks has to offer; to learn new skills from local experts; to get to know The Brecks landscape and to help safeguard its future. From family fun events to research projects, there really is something for everyone!

Breaking New Ground is a Heritage Lottery Funded Landscape Partnership Project, focusing on the heart of the Norfolk and Suffolk Brecks. Over the course of three years (2014 to 2017) the scheme will deliver over 37 landscape and heritage based projects, including a grant scheme for new ideas. The aim is to engage with local communities to tell the story of the Brecks and celebrate its unique landscape character, wildlife and history. The scheme is based at Brandon Country Park and is hosted by Suffolk County Council. Our numerous partners include Local Authorities; statutory agencies; conservation, heritage and community organisations; local attractions; and committed individuals.
