A Labour of Love

A brand-new musical starring the local community and celebrating the Labour of Love that went into reopening of the Theatre Royal in 1965!

Its 1959 and the Theatre Royal is a derelict a barrel store in need of bring back to life. Over six years, and against all the odds, the people of Bury St Edmunds finally return to tread the boards.

Based on the movers and shakers who worked tirelessly to restore our Theatre, A Labour of Love delves deep into the relationships that were forged and broken in the process. A story about passion, people and community spirit.

Written by award-winning playwright Danusia Iwaszko with exciting new music by Phil Gostelow and directed by Artistic Director Karen Simpson.

Alongside the newly commissioned play the Theatre Royal will also present a 50th anniversary exhibition.  This will involve all sections of the community, from those who remember the barrel store restoration taking place to local school children learning about the history of our theatre for the first time.  Keep an eye out for more information about the project on our website www.theatreroyal.org

A group of 10 strangers are lured to a remote island off the coast of Devon. Upon arrival it is discovered that their host, an eccentric millionaire, is missing… Stranded on the island by a torrential storm and haunted by an ancient nursery rhyme, one by one the guests begin to die… With only the fallen believed to be innocent who amongst them is the killer?

Based on the best-selling mystery novel of all time, Agatha Christie’s own stage adaptation of this dark and captivating tale will thrill and enthral, as murder unfolds.
