A dedicated base which is helping people with drug or alcohol problems in north Norfolk to access essential support services closer to home will be officially opened by the Minister for Care later this month.
Care and Support Minister, Norman Lamb, MP for North Norfolk, will open Norfolk Recovery Partnership’s (NRP) new base at St Nicholas Court in North Walsham, on Friday 30 January 2015.
As well as meeting staff, who provide service users with a wide range of treatment interventions and support for drug or alcohol problems, he will also meet former service users and learn more about their recovery journeys.
NRP is a partnership of Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, The Matthew Project, and the Rehabilitation of Addicted Prisoners Trust (RAPt). It provides the adult substance misuse treatment service for Norfolk residents, commissioned by Norfolk County Council Public Health.
The new north Norfolk base offers a range of services for people with drug or alcohol problems, including assessment, detoxification, counselling, recovery interventions and group work, along with substitute prescribing and support to help people reduce their use and stay off substances. NRP operates an open access system, which means service users do not need to make an appointment before attending.
Chris Strivens, Deputy Service Manager for NRP, said: “We are delighted that Mr Lamb has agreed to come and officially open our fantastic new base in North Walsham.
“The facility is already making a huge difference to service users in north Norfolk by providing them with a base closer to home from which they can access our services. We are looking forward to providing Mr Lamb with the opportunity to tour our premises and introduce him to some of our service users who will be able to share their recovery journeys.
“We would also encourage anyone who is working with, or caring for, someone with alcohol or drug problems, or are struggling themselves, to come along and find out more about the service and how we may be able to help.”
Lucy Macleod, Interim Director of Public Health at Norfolk County Council, said: “Norfolk County Council and the Norfolk Drug and Alcohol Partnership (N-DAP) are committed to reducing the harm that drugs and alcohol cause to individuals, families and communities. As part of this commitment, we’re delighted that a new drop-in and treatment centre is opening in North Walsham for people suffering from drug and alcohol problems.
“The new centre will enable people to walk in and ask for help and advice, as well as return there for follow-up treatment. Bringing all of this support together under one roof will make it as easy and quick as possible for people to get the help they need to turn their lives around for the better, as well as providing vital support and advice to their families and carers.”
The service also operates from bases in Norwich, Thetford, King’s Lynn and Great Yarmouth.
