Hello Everyone,

I hope you’re all happy and well.

What’s all this about?

I’m part of a community group called Sustainable Bungay, in particular I’m involved with a project called Bungay Community Kitchen. Once a month the Community Kitchen serves good quality, healthy, local food round a big shared table (50+ people). Mixing all ages and groups, giving everyone involved an opportunity to create and eat a delicious meal together and introducing local, seasonal food and food producers as well as simple cooking to a wider audience the Community Kitchen has been a huge success in it’s first few years. To date we’ve served almost 1500 meals, worked with over 50 volunteers and reinvested thousands of pounds back into local businesses and the community.

But now we’re looking at ways to broaden the project and increase access to our delicious cooked food by offering a home delivery or take-away service, getting our current volunteers some formal training – and offering that training to new volunteers. We’d like to share what we’ve learned so far with other local groups and with those further away – the recipes, but also how we plan, promote and present the meals. We’d like to work with other local groups and schools and hope to create jobs growing, cooking and delivering meals. We’re keen to offer the services of the Community Kitchen to businesses and individuals looking for a local, sustainable community owned caterer.

You can read more about the Community Kitchen HERE

We’re looking at various ways of raising the funds to support this expanded work and an amazing opportunity has come up to get us started. The Community Kitchen is very close to securing £3000 from the Lloyds Community Fund to expand and develop the existing, thriving meals into a wider project offering training and learning and increasing access to low-cost, healthy, well-cooked and locally sourced food.

We’ve got through the initial selection stages, but the final decision falls to a public vote (which closes on 1st November). At the moment we’re very close to winning the vote and the £3000 – we just need to make sure we collect as many votes as possible in the final week.

So if you can please do vote today – it’s ever-so easy and it could make a huge difference.
