Local charity’s plea: “Vote for us and help us win £3,000”

A much-loved local charity which hopes to develop an innovative centre for people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses is appealing for the public’s support to help it bag a grant of £3,000.

Halesworth Community Nursing Care Fund (HCNCF) has been shortlisted for the Lloyds Bank Community Fund 2014 in the Beccles area. The charity is now appealing for people to vote via Twitter, online, in a branch of Lloyds or by text and help it win up to £3,000 in funding.

The money would go towards a new Information and Support Centre (ISC), earmarked for land next to Cutlers Hill Surgery in Halesworth. Open to patients in north east Suffolk and south Norfolk, as well as their carers and families, the centre would bring a full range of holistic services closer to home, including benefits advice, complementary therapies, help understanding a diagnosis, counselling and bereavement support.

HCNCF has already raised more than half of the £714,000 needed for the centre, and hope the Lloyds vote, which runs from today until 10 October, will help boost the total still further.

Ted Edwards, ISC chairman, said: “We have been delighted with the support we have received from our community so far, and hope that local people will be able to help us once more by voting for us in this ballot.

“By simply texting, tweeting, popping into Lloyds Bank or going online, they can help turn our exciting vision of creating this innovative centre into a reality so that we can continue to support vulnerable people when they need it the most.

“We’d encourage anyone with access to the internet or a mobile to vote for us. It will only take a second and could make a real difference to people in Halesworth and the surrounding towns and villages.”

Four projects have been shortlisted for the award, and will receive between £500 and £3,000, depending on the number of votes they receive.
