Wanted: golfers to tee off at special charity event

Golfers from across Norfolk and Suffolk are being invited to take to the fairways to raise funds to develop an innovative centre for people with life-limiting illnesses during a special charity tournament.

Halesworth Community Nursing Care Fund (HCNCF) will host its second charity golf competition at Halesworth Golf Club on Friday 2 September 2016.

The contest is open to teams of four with a range of prizes up for grabs, including prizes for nearest the pin and longest drive.

Friends and families are also welcome to attend and offer support, join in with a putting competition, take part in the raffle and enjoy a buffet lunch and other refreshments.

The day has been arranged to raise money towards the ISC, which aims to bring a full range of holistic services closer to home for patients with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, their families and carers. This includes benefits advice, wig-fitting, children and family support, complementary therapies, help understanding a diagnosis, counselling and bereavement support.

The appeal has now raised 89% of its £714,000 target, with the current total standing at over £636,410.

Ted Edwards, ISC chairman, said: “Last year’s golf day was a fantastic success. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event, which raised more than £3,500 for our campaign.

“We hope to top that figure this time around and still have space for a couple more teams, so hope that more golfers will sign up and make sure the tournament really goes with a swing.

“There will be lots happening during the day, with putting competitions, refreshments, information displays and a raffle taking place to help keep supporters entertained while the golfers hit the fairways. We’ve also got some fantastic prizes lined up thanks to the generosity of individuals and local businesses, and are also grateful to Halesworth Golf Club for their support.

“We would encourage anyone with an interest in golf who is keen to support our fantastic ISC project to sign up and enjoy a bit of friendly competition while raising vital funds for charity at the same time.”

Entry costs £39 per player, to include bacon butties on arrival and lunch. The maximum handicap is 24 for men and 36 for ladies.

For more information or to sign up, contact Ted Edwards on 01986 784393 or [email protected] or ask at the Halesworth Golf Club shop.

Closing date for entries is 26 August 2016.
