Dir: Pedro Almodovar, 2009, SPAIN, 128 min.
With Penelope Cruz, Jose Luis Gomez, Lluis Homar, Tamar Novas.
It is almost impossible to write a summary of the hugely complicated plot of Almodovar’s latest work. Featuring the ‘film within a film’ device it is set in two time zones – 1994 and the present. Mateo is a film director who has become blind as a result of a car crash. Now a scriptwriter he looks back to the days when he made his last film starring his lover Lena who also happened to be the wife of the ruthless man funding the enterprise. Dazzling, sophisticated and infuriating it is everything Almodovar fans could hope for.
