One of the world’s leading experts in psychosis, Professor Sir Robin Murray, will be among the guest speakers at a Carers Forum in Ipswich on Friday, 2 November 2012.

Organised by Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) and Suffolk Family Carers, the Carers Forum covers various issues affecting those with mental illness and those who care for them.

The forums are held four times a year, following their launch in Great Yarmouth in November 2011, and will eventually cover all localities across Norfolk and Suffolk.

Organiser Howard Tidman, a Senior Practitioner at NSFT, explains: “The forums were designed following feedback from carers who said that they wanted more information about the mental health issues of those they cared for.

“As a result, each forum provides a platform for guest speakers covering all aspects of mental health including psychiatrists, service users and the carers themselves.”

As well as Sir Robin talking about psychosis, other topics to be covered at the Ipswich forum will be dementia, personality disorders, schizophrenia, and recovering from mental illness.

Complementing the talks will a number of stalls manned by various Trust departments, voluntary groups and charities including Trust Alcohol & Drugs (TADS), Suffolk Carers and MIND, who will be able to explain the services they provide and how to access them.

In addition, the day will also offer free taster session in holistic therapies such as Indian head massage and reflexology.

Howard adds: “The Carers Forums are also open to Service Users and any members of the public who are interested in mental health issues, as well as professionals who wish to network with others in their field.”

The Carers Forum will be held at The UCS, West Building, North Campus, Ipswich IP4 1QJ.
