Wymondham Music Festival Young Musicians’ Concert
Ken Crandell & Alexander Little @ Wymondham Abbey

Retired music teacher Ken Crandell has composed a new piano piece, Entrada, to mark Wymondham Music Festival’s 20th year.

Entrada will be given its world premiere at the Festival’s annual Young Musicians’ Concert at Wymondham Abbey, on the evening of Monday, June 29 2015, and will be played by Alexander Little, Norfolk Young Musician 2015.

The concert features performances from local young musicians playing a range of instruments, including an organ recital from Alexander Little, whose programme will be JS Bach, Prelude and Fugue in B minor and Piece d’Orgue, Kenneth Leighton, Chorale on Rockingham, Olivier Messiaen, Offrande au Saint Sacrement, Frank Bridge, Adagio in E major and Widor, Organ Symphony No. 5 – Toccata.

The concert, which is supported by Fosters Solicitors, begins at 7pm. Tickets are £5 on the door, children free.

Ken Crandell said: “I came to the very first Young Musician’s Concert introducing piano pupils of my own. I wrote Entrada, which is Spanish for entrance or gateway, not so much to celebrate the last 20 years, but to look forward to the success of Wymondham Music Festival over the next 20 years.  Entrada is a short piano piece with a fanfare style, especially written for Alexander Little.”

Alexander Little (18), who is a student at Norwich School said: “I feel privileged and excited about the prospect of playing the world premiere of Entrada. My first reaction when I learnt that I was Norfolk Young Musician 2015 was shock! But I am looking forward to the wonderful opportunities this year will give me, including playing both the organ and piano, in the lovely surroundings of Wymondham Abbey.”

Richard Elliott, Chairman Wymondham Music Festival said: “Our thanks go to Ken for composing Entrada to mark our 20th year and look forward to the next 20, and our best wishes go to Alexander and all the other young musicians who will be performing on June 29. We are looking forward to a full ‘house’ at the event.”
