A healthy lifestyle programme for youngsters aged 7-12 is being launched in North Norfolk following successful sessions in Norwich and King’s Lynn.

Fit4it Juniors is a fun and interactive, healthy lifestyle programme for children and their families, designed by the Community Sports Foundation (CSF) in conjunction with Norfolk County Council and Inspire International.

The Fit4it programme is a free ten-week programme with sessions lasting for an hour and a half which include interactive and engaging sessions about nutrition and healthy living as well as a range of fun exercise sessions.

The programme has been designed to help raise aspirations, increase participation in exercise and improve participants’ Body Mass Index (BMI) throughout the programme.

Local health profiles for the North Norfolk District Council area show that childhood overweight prevalence is in the highest 25 per cent nationally for children at Reception class and Year 6 and well above the East of England average at both ages.

The programme is being supported by NHS North Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group (NN CCG) and Ellis Layward, Clinical Commissioning Manager at NN CCG, said: “We are pleased to welcome the Fit4it programme into North Norfolk and would encourage local youngsters who could benefit from these fun sessions to get involved.”

GPs can refer youngsters onto the programme and individuals can also self-refer themselves or their children.

The first junior session will start at the end of this month and will take place at Cromer Academy. A senior session for youngsters aged 12-16 will hopefully be introduced later in the year.
