50 Fabulous Christmas Trees
in Dickleburgh Church

The fourth annual South Norfolk Christmas Tree extravaganza, 50 Christmas Trees in a Church, is set to take place in Dickleburgh Church from Sunday, December 2 to Sunday, December 9.

Local organisations, businesses and children’s groups still have the opportunity to enter decorated trees in the event and win one of more than 20 cash prizes with a top prize of £500.

Now in its fourth year, 50 Christmas Trees in a Church will feature up to 60 trees. The event has a competitive edge, as each organisation that enters a tree has the chance to win £500 prize money for being voted best Christmas Tree by visitors, with over 20 smaller cash prizes for runners up, along with three prizes for the best children’s trees.

Starston Ladies Playgroup (pictured above), who have won best tree at each extravaganza are regrettably unable to enter this year because of other commitments.

Event organiser Rev. Norman Steer is creating a Jesse Tree this year, with the help of Kathy Leeder, who is a Dickleburgh Beavers’ leader. The Jesse Tree depicts the genealogy of Christ, from the Creation to his birth.
Starston textile artist Christina Greathead is the festival’s artist in residence. She is producing colourful hand and machine stitched panels on natural themes to decorate the walls of the church.

There is no charge for community organisations to take part. Businesses are also welcome to enter a tree, in return for a charity donation, or advert in the 50 Christmas Trees in a Church programme.

For more information or to enter a tree, contact event organiser, Rev. Norman Steer or Mrs Rosemary Steer, Tel. 01379 854245, email [email protected]

Following the official opening, the event will be open from 5pm-7pm on Saturday December 1, then from 10am to 7pm daily from Sunday, December 2 to Saturday December 8. The event will open at 10am on Sunday 9 December and close at 5pm with an award ceremony for the winning trees. Admission is adult £3.50, senior citizens and concessions £3, pre-booked groups £2.75, children free.

All money raised will be shared between Christian Aid and the parish churches of Dickleburgh, Pulham Market, Pulham St Mary, Rushall, Starston, Thelveton, Shimpling and Frenze.

Morning coffee, light lunches and teas will be served all day in Dickleburgh Church Rooms (next to the church). Christmas Crafts on sale.

Event organiser, Rev. Norman Steer said: “We welcomed around 4,000 people last year. They enjoyed a fabulous selection of Christmas Trees, as well as our wonderful historic church. We are planning a busy programme of special events and activities for this Christmas and look forward to welcoming many more visitors to our beautiful corner of Norfolk.”

Dickleburgh village is to the north of Diss, just off the A140.
