Celebrating its 119th year, BUNGAY CHORAL SOCIETY is offering a different kind of celebration for Christmas 2007.

A CHRISTMAS MISCELLANY
7.30 PM on December 8th 2007
at Holy Trinity Church, Bungay

Promises to be a highly enjoyable, and rather different, evening, with chorales from ‘Sleepers Wake’, by J.S.Bach; carols both from the choir and with audience participation, and superb solos from the well loved organist, Tim Patient.

In addition, children from Ellingham V. C Primary School will be helping the adults to sing, as well as performing their own pieces, and there will be a variety of seasonal readings.

But what is going to make this evening unusual is that the audience will have their own, and very important, part to play in the performance. Harvey Rathbone, the Choir’s Honorary Conductor, explains: ‘Everyone loves Christmas concerts, but usually, apart from joining in some of the carols, the audience does not play a very active part. Well, they will this year!! You will have to come along to find out how. ‘A Christmas Miscellany’ promises to be a really fun evening’.

Harvey Rathbone, who has led the Choral Society since January 2006, has worked with many leading British choral groups such as the BBC Singers, The London Sinfonietta Chorus, London Voices, St. Paul’s Cathedral Choir and Westminster Abbey Choir. He has an active involvement in The British & International Federation of Festivals for Music Dance & Speech; which he combines with teaching in East Anglia; adjudicating and giving workshops and master classes at festivals around the British Isles.

Bungay Choral Society, founded in 1888, presents three major concerts every year. The Society numbers some 50 voices with recent performances including Haydn’s ‘Creation’; Stainer’s ‘Crucifixion’; Beethoven’s ‘Mass in C ‘and John Rutter’s ‘Requiem’. In addition to these very popular concerts in Bungay, Bungay Choral Society has also appeared at Snape Maltings and taken part in radio programmes.
