A daring colleague from Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust (NCH&C) is set to prove that she is a cut above the rest as she prepares to shave off her hair to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Susie Kloczkov, 49, who works as an Assistant Practitioner for the Community Nursing and Therapy team in North Walsham, will join 15,000 others nationwide to shave off their hair for Macmillan’s “Brave to Shave” campaign on August 29, 2015.
The campaign aims to give patients who suffer from cancer the inspiration to take back control of their life, especially when they experience hair loss and changes to their appearance.
Susie, who lives in Southrepps, will be fundraising to say thank you for the support her mother, Joan, received at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, after she was diagnosed with bowel cancer two years ago.
“It was a huge shock when my mother was diagnosed, particularly as her prognosis without an operation was only six months,” said Susie. “Since then, she recently had the operation and in August we will be holding a special party to celebrate her 80th birthday, just before the big shave.”
“Throughout my career at NCH&C, I have met people who are living with cancer and who receive palliative care in the final stages of their lives, so I know how important the support and care Macmillan provides for patients and their relatives.”
Susie hopes to raise £500 for the charity, but if she manages to exceed her target, she plans shave her hair even shorter. The money raised from the campaign will help give people with cancer and their families the specialised support they need, when they need it most.
“This will be a big challenge for myself, as I am very paranoid about my hair – I don’t even like people touching it – but you come to point in your life to do something that will have a big impact,” Susie added.
