Local artists group Easterly respond to the current climate of uncertainty with a new exhibition “Change”

A CHANGE IN THE AIR

With Christmas consigned to memory and winter taking a firm hold across the landscape, local visual artists group Easterly responds to these times of increasing uncertainty with an exhibition of individual interpretations on the theme of change.

The Easterly exhibition takes place at The Gallery Upstairs at the Fisher Theatre, Broad Street, Bungay NR35 1EE, and runs from Sunday 17 February to Thursday 14 March 2019. Note: The gallery is not open every day – visitors should check the theatre website or call 01986 897130 for details.

Easterly co-founder Hugh Davies commented: “We live in a world of continual change: geophysical, social, economic, political – everything is constantly evolving as we watch. What’s new is the speed of that change: we’re now living through a time of massive upheaval, at a rate which is unprecedented.

“With everything open to question, it’s the job of the artist to try to capture those feelings, sometimes of doubt and uncertainty, at others of huge hope and excitement, and reflect them back to the viewer – and, in doing so, perhaps help them find their own answers.”

The exhibition features original contributions from eight artists and covers a range of media including print, painting, drawing, wood turning, ceramics and found objects. Unusually, each contributor’s work is displayed alongside the others’, giving visitors a direct experience of constant change and evolution as they walk around.

Run by its members, Easterly is a group of visual artists based at the easternmost edge of the UK mainland. The group formed in 2018 as a mutually supportive group to promote the practice of local artists, and encourage awareness and appreciation of their work. Members are all practising artists living and/or working within a 20-mile radius of Ness Point, the most easterly part of the UK.
