Simon King – Saturday 16 June at 7.30pm

Simon’s love of wildlife began in his childhood home in Africa; it certainly influenced his first career choice which was to become an elephant when he grew up!

Known to millions as a face of Springwatch and Big Cat Diary, naturalist and broadcaster Simon King is the real life Dr Doolittle. In this fully illustrated  talk, Simon takes the audience on a journey of discovery, showing how everyone can talk to the animals in their own neighbourhood and get first class views of wildlife as a result.

The show includes an extensive Q & A session and the audience will have the opportunity to chat with Simon about everything from the wildlife on their doorsteps to his adventures as a wildlife film-maker all over the world. Discover stories of filming creatures as diverse as killer whales (for the land mark series Blue Planet) Great White Sharks (Planet Earth) and of course lions, leopards and cheetahs (Big Cat Diary).

Simon has now given up on the idea of becoming an elephant, but has never given up on the idea of ensuring the survival of this and every other species that inhabits this planet.

Fens Falconry – Sunday 17 June at 10.00am

Father’s Day Special!

Back by popular demand, we welcome back Fens Falconry to Gresham’s.

Handlers will provide an informative and entertaining talk and, weather permitting, a flying display in the grounds beyond the Theatre. Being at the top of the food chain does not prevent these beautiful birds from being vulnerable to changes in their environment and to human activities. They may be supremely skilled but they also face enormous challenges every day. We offer the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of nature’s best designed predators. Along with some superb opportunities for photography there is much to learn about birds of prey – everything about them has been evolved for a reason and allows them to maintain their status as a top predator. During our flying demonstrations you will see them in action accompanied by entertaining commentary, plus have the chance to ask questions at our static display stand.

We will provide some seating but you may wish to bring your own blanket or chairs to sit on.

Refreshments available in the Auden.

Henry Blofeld – Sunday 17 June at 3.00am

Widely respected as the voice of Test Match Special ‘Blowers’ brings his wit and wisdom to the stage once again.

Henry’s keen to stress though that it’s not all cricket, in fact most of it isn’t and that every show is different. So, even if you’ve been before you can be sure that it’ll never be the same twice.

“People gather round afterwards in the foyer and say, ‘We had no idea it was like this. We thought it was a cricket show.’ But it’s not. And if you think you’re going to learn how to play a forward defensive, you’ll be sadly disappointed.”

Instead, the talk is based, in the loosest sense, on Henry’s life story, although there’s time for as many after-dinner anecdotes and meandering digressions as there is in a Test Match Special rain break.

The show itself is very tongue-in-cheek and Henry spends a lot of time poking fun at himself and subjects veer from intergalactic travel, to horticulture to mountaineering. Audiences are always sure of an evening of great tales from this quintessential Englishman.
