Summer 2014 series gets off to sizzling start

The summer series of Aylsham cooking demonstrations got off to a sizzling start on 3rd May when local chef Derrol Waller showed off his skills in the Market Place. Timed to coincide with the town’s Farmers Markets, the demonstrations will continue through until September, each on the first Saturday of the month.

In a 2-hour session promoted by Cittaslow Aylsham in association with Slow Food Aylsham, Derrol Waller produced a range dishes, including a delicious mushroom risotto, beef in a creamy sauce, asparagus soup and crepes, all with ingredients sourced in the farmers market. All the food was available for tasting by the audience who thoroughly enjoyed the show.

Organised by Cittaslow Aylsham and featuring guest chefs from local restaurants, the programme of cooking demonstrations in Aylsham Market Place for the remainder of the summer is:

Saturday 2nd August Mark Sayers, Saracens Head, Wolterton
Saturday 6th September David Tortice, Banningham Crown

Aylsham Farmers Markets are held twice each month, on the first and third Saturdays. They are accredited by the FARMA organisation, a national co-operative of UK farmers, small scale local producers and farmers’ market organisers. It is the largest grouping of individual retailers in Europe and welcomes membership from large and small independents.
