Woodgate Nursery, Aylsham is delighted to announce its popular Garden Show is back this June in aid of SSAFA (the Armed Forces charity) and The Aylsham Roman Project. Woodgate Nursery is home to The Aylsham Roman Project archaeological site which won the award for Business Community Supporter of the year at the Broadland Community at Heart Awards 2017.
The Garden Show will take place on June 9th and 10th between 10am – 4.30pm and will aimto build on the success of last year’s event which welcomed more than 4,500 people and raised funds for local charities. We have introduced a £1 voluntary gate entrance donation (per person), with all fee’s/donations go straight to the chosen charities – SSAFA and The Aylsham Roman Project.
Packed full of inspiration for the garden, the annual show is a great day out for everyone. There will be plenty of entertainment for all ages including a tombola, children’s games, face painting, birds of prey, arts and crafts marquee and charity stalls. Coxford’s butchers inAylsham will be having a hog roast and Purdy’s Tea Room will be serving a delicious range ofhomemade cakes, light lunches, ice creams throughout the weekend. The Aylsham Brass Band will be providing an afternoon of musical entertainment on Sunday 10th June.
This year Aylsham is celebrating the work of Humprey Repton, the last great landscape designer of the eighteenth century, on the bicentenary of his death. His works include Holkham Hall and Sheringham Park, and he was the first to coin the term ‘landscape gardening’. Will any of our designers channel their inner Repton and show this in their garden designs? You will have to come and see for yourselves. This year the designers include Ian Cooper – IFC landscapes, Broadacre Gardens (http://www.broadacre- gardens.co.uk/) and Kevin Myhill. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favourite garden for a chance to win £75 worth of gardening vouchers.
Peter Purdy, owner of Woodgate Nursery, comments
‘The Garden Show is a great opportunity for garden enthusiasts across the county to come together to talk to our garden designers and experience their creations first hand. We also have plenty on offer for the non-green fingered folk – including arts and craft stands and plenty of delicious food offerings. Please join us over the weekend to have fun and help us raise money for two worthwhile charities’
Our horticultural area will also include demonstrations by Drew Charlton Willow, Woodgate Forge and Yew Turn Oak Buildings, and with over 45 craft stands under one roof, there is plenty to see and do.

About Woodgate Nursery
A traditional plant nursery located just outside the beautiful market town of Aylsham, the business was established in 1982 by Peter Purdy as a hobby.
With a passion for gardening, Peter started growing plants on a plot of land backing on to this house, selling his creations by the roadside. Fast forward a few years and today this hobby has grown into Woodgate Nursery. A thriving business stocking more than 700 varieties of Herbaceous Perennials, shrubs, vegetable plants, trees, ferns, roses, hedging and bog plants.
But what hasn’t changed is Peter’s wish to provide customers with the best possible rangeof plants along with friendly, personal service.
