Beccles Festival is back for 2014 with a brand new format which presents 3 themed weekends over the next 7 months, plus a series of fund-raising events under the ‘Keep Beccles Festive!’ banner. Full details and tickets available at www.becclesfestival.co.uk

There is a classical weekend in June and a trio of unmissable jazz gigs in September, but the Festival is launched on 22nd & 29th March with two Play Days for Orchestra and Concert Band.

The Festival is inviting ALL violinists, viola players and cellists, woodwind and brass players of approximately Grade 3 standard and above to take part – with an exceptionally warm welcome to string and brass players.

The Orchestra and Band will work over the two Play Days on Saturday 22nd and 29th March towards a concert at 6pm on the 29th. Fees are £30 for adults, £20 for those in full-time education and £10 for under-16s. Audience tickets for the concert are £7 (£6 concessions, free to under-18s). All events take place at the Sir John Leman High School in Beccles.

Elgar Howarth, the internationally-recognized brass player, conductor and composer will direct the Festival Orchestra, and Joe Knight will conduct the Concert Band. Leader of the Kingfisher Sinfonietta Beth Spendlove and other members of her ensemble will provide coaching and support. It will be exciting, hard work, and an opportunity to make new musical friends and contacts – do join us!
