Bring It On Burgh – Family to open up private parkland to Norfolk runners

Blur drummer and Norfolk County Councillor Dave Rowntree will open a new family fun run event on a private estate near Aylsham.

Bring It On Burgh, a 5km mixed-terrain route, will start in beautiful parkland which has never before been open to the public. Runners will pass through a picturesque unspoilt water meadow set against the backdrop of the River Bure, and past a stunning English Heritage monument.

The event in Burgh-next-Aylsham is the brainchild of Susie Anderson, the daughter of the landowner, who was inspired to organise the fundraiser after two people close to her were diagnosed with cancer. 

Dedicated to raising funds for Cancer Research UK, the run will finish in a specially set-up “village” with live music, artisan food and drink, holistic treatments and a “Tree of Hope” and remembrance. The bands booked are DGAS women’s acoustic African drumming group, Polymer 5, BroadBeat Choir and Spangle Pans.

“Cancer touches all of our lives in some form, be it personally, family member, friend or colleague,” says Susie. “My initial reaction when I found out that my cousin and best friend had both been diagnosed with cancer was that of shock and helplessness, but I got the seeds of an idea to try and put on an event to raise some money for Cancer Research UK and I love running, so I put the two together and it gathered pace from there.”

The event on Saturday 20 June, at Wood Lane, Burgh-Next-Aylsham, has already attracted support from local companies such as Barnwell Print and Quotatis Ltd, and tickets are on sale for £15 on the Bring It On Burgh website . The organisers are also seeking non-runner volunteers to marshal on the day.
