Rave On – “A Tribute to Buddy Holly and the Crickets” are without doubt one of the finest Tribute acts to the Rock and Roll legend currently performing in the UK. The band formed in the summer of 2008 after meeting in Spotlight Theatre Groups production of “Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story”, (Winner of NODA Best Musical and Best Production 2008). The show was an amazing success with packed houses dancing in the aisles every night, and the group now return to Beccles for one night only on 12th February 2011!!

After the show three of the cast, who had all played in bands for many years, decided to form a band to celebrate the life and music of the late great Buddy Holly. Teddy Ready had to learn to play bull fiddle for the production of ‘Buddy’, and now that bass never leaves his side. Bo Duddley on drums can usually be found beating out crazy rhythms on anything that comes to hand and Ray Vaughan just loves to pick. The boys, who all spent many years in their local tabernacle church choirs, just love to sing in close harmony. Recently the band has been expanded to include the glamorous trio of bee-hived backing vocalists ‘The Raveonettes’ so, If you are lucky enough to catch their show, you will see how they lovingly recreate the authentic sound of the Crickets and, with stories and anecdotes, tell the short but eventful story of Buddy’s life.

The two hour show features around 40 of Buddy’s songs played in chronological order. Act one opens with a short film of rare home movie footage and TV Clips then the band take to the stage to tell the story of Buddys early life and career, his early breakthroughs and first hits.

Act two tells the story of Buddy, the star, newly married, with big ideas for his future career, and includes a recreation of Buddy’s ill-fated final tour, The Winter Dance Party, this final section featuring “The Raveonettes”.

The band have recorded live sessions for BBC Radio Suffolk and appeared recently on BBC Look East whilst playing at Bernard Hills’ ‘Hope For Haiti’ Concert at the Cut Halesworth.
