Bungay Black Dog Marathon and Half Marathon 6th April 2008

The 26th Bungay Black Dog Marathon and Half Marathon will take place on Sunday 6th April 2008 from the Bungay and District Sports Associations field at Maltings Meadow Ditchingham. It is the only spring marathon in the east of England and coming one week before the London Marathon provides an ideal alternative for those runners unable to get into the London race, whilst the half marathon is a perfect warm up for those who have got in.

The organisers hope to build upon the success of this year’s event by attracting another large field for both races as well as raising a lot of money for this year’s partner charity, RadioBroadlandKidz.

The proceedings at the sports ground will be much the same as this year and will include the popular family fun run. Runners and spectators will be able to enjoy the grandstand finish, whilst the clubhouse will be open all day for changing, showers, and refreshments.

Radio Broadland will cover the event and all proceeds from the event will go to RadioBroadlandKidz who raise money to help disadvantaged youngsters in Norfolk and north Suffolk. The charity works with local organisations to improve young people’s opportunity, independence, ability, choice, and confidence, and funds projects benefiting children and young people up to the age of 18.

RadioBroadlandKidz has already made over 70 grants to local non-profit-making organisations and groups, including, £3000 to Victim Support to pay for recreational activity breaks for Young Victims, £3449 to the Haven Project to complete the funding for a play area at the refuge for children who have had to flee domestic violence with their Mothers, £3300 to the green Canaries Wheelchair basketball Club to fund two sports wheelchairs and sponsored bibs for the players, £1830 to Norwich and District Carers Forum to finance a trip for 30 young carers aged 5-13 to visit Legoland, and £2000 for the Seal and Bird Rescue Centre to fund the young peoples education centre.

Grants are made four times a year to help local projects that give local disadvantaged children a better life.

The Bungay Black Dog Marathon organisers are once again very grateful to their sponsors, as well as all the helpers, and local organisations who donate, time, equipment, and facilities, all of which increases the amount raised for charity, whilst all runners will be sent a sponsorship form asking them to support RadioBroadlandKidz.
