Dear All,

The days are getting shorter and the Bungay Film Club is back on Monday to enliven the dark evenings.

Membership of the film club still costs only £10, and entitles the bearer to half price admission to all club screenings.  No other benefits, not even a membership card, but where else can you see a movie for £2.50?

You can join before FORCE MAJEURE on Monday evening, or at any of our screenings until the end of February.

Existing members need not renew until next month, but any early subscriptions will be gratefully received.

Regardless of purchase date, subscriptions bought in the next few months will expire on 30 September 2016.

Look forward to seeing you at the Fisher soon,

Best wishes,

Katharine.

Monday 28 September at 7.30 pm.

FORCE MAJEURE (15).

Sweden/France/Norway 2014.  119 minutes.  In Swedish with English subtitles.

Director: Ruben Ostlund. Starring: Johannes Bah Kuhnke and Lisa Loven Kongsli.

A dark comedy of manners set in the French Alps.  Tomas, an affluent Swedish business man, is on a skiing holiday with his family.  When an avalanche threatens to engulf them all, Tomas makes a decision that will have an immeasurable impact on his family life.  Director Ostlund’s well observed drama exposes the tensions in a seemingly happy marriage.  ‘Compelling, intelligent and grimly entertaining.  I’d recommend it wholeheartedly (but not) as a date movie’.  The Observer.

Monday 26 October at 7.30 pm.

HUMAN CAPITAL (15).

Italy/France 2013.  111minutes. In Italian with English subtitles.

Director: Paolo Virzi.  Starring: Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi, Fabrizio Bentivoglio, Matilde Gioli, Valeria Golino and Fabrizio Gifuni.

A stylish Italian morality tale set in and around Milan.  Two families from disparate worlds meet when their teenagers begin dating.  Following a hit-and-run accident, all their lives become inextricably intertwined.  The story is told from different points of view with clever scripting and excellent performances, notably from Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi (Carla Bruni’s sister).   HUMAN CAPITAL is both a compelling whodunit and a revealing snapshot of contemporary Italy.

Monday 7 December at 7.30 pm.

TRASH (15).

UK/Brazil 2014.  114 minutes. In English, and Portuguese with subtitles.

Director: Stephen Daldry.  Starring:  Rickson Tevez, Gabriel Weinstein, Eduardo Luis, Martin Sheen and Rooney Mara.

This engaging drama shot in Rio de Janeiro centres on three boys who find a cash-filled wallet while scavenging on a rubbish tip.  After spending the money, they discover that the wallet belongs to a corrupt politician who wants it back.  TRASH stars a trio of charismatic non-professionals and is co-written by Richard Curtis (THE VICAR OF DIBLEY and LOVE ACTUALLY).  Director Stephen Daldry rediscovers the energy that powered his first film, BILLY ELLIOT, and finds hope and humour amid the squalor of the slums.
