Bungay Film Club

It was brilliant to see so many of you for LOVING VINCENT on Monday.  Thank you all for your continued support of the film club.  We’re taking a month off and will be back at the end of September with this year’s Oscar winner for the best film in a foreign language, the unforgettable A FANTASTIC WOMAN (15).

Fisher Film Programme

In the meantime, the Fisher programme is replete with cinematic delights for you this month, beginning on Monday 6 August at 7.30pm with one of last year’s best romantic films, FILM STARS DON’T DIE IN LIVERPOOL (15).  There is terrific chemistry between Annette Bening (THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT) and Jamie Bell (BILLY ELLIOT), the stars of this stranger-than-fiction love story based on a memoir by Peter Turner.  As a young actor in the late 70s, Turner had an affair with Gloria Grahame, the former Hollywood temptress who, in her heyday, had co-starred with Humphrey Bogart and James Stewart.  UK 2017.  105 minutes.

THE MERCY (12A), another drama based on fact, follows at 7.30 pm on Monday 13 August.  The true story of amateur sailor Donald Crowhurst and his attempt to win the first Golden Globe singled-handed round the world yacht race in 1968.  The film stars Colin Firth and Rachel Weisz and is directed by James Marsh.  UK 2018.  101 minutes.

On Saturday 18 August at 8 pm the original MAMMA MIA! (PG) returns to Bungay in the popular singalong version.  This is bound to be a very popular screening, given the current success of MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN in cinemas across the country.  Advanced booking is strongly advised.

Two days later, on Monday 20 August at 7.30pm, PHANTOM THREAD (15) stars Daniel Day-Lewis in what he has announced will be his final film role.  Set in 1950s London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the centre of British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars and socialites with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock’s life, providing the confirmed bachelor with inspiration and companionship, until he meets a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), and finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by love.   UK 2018.  130 minutes.

GREASE SING A LONG

At 8pm on Saturday 25 August, another hit musical returns to the Fisher screen with the singalong version of GREASE (PG).

the greatest showman

Finally, on Bank Holiday Monday 27 August at 7.30pm, THE GREATEST SHOWMAN (PG) reaches Bungay after much success with audiences nationwide.  This musical loosely based on the life of PT Barnum, the American circus entrepreneur, stars Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams and Zac Ephron and has spawned a hugely successful soundtrack album.  US 2017.  105 minutes.

Seats £5 and £3 (film club members only, no other concessions), available at the Fisher Box Office or online.

Please note the later start times for the two singalong shows this month.
