Fantastic Woman

The film club will be back at the end of the month with the winner of this year’s Oscar for the best film in a foreign language:

A FANTASTIC WOMAN (15)

at 7.30pm on Monday 24 September 2018

A Chilean drama about a young transgender woman struggling to deal with her own grief and the prejudice she suffers after the death of her lover.   Directed by Sebastian Lelio, whose previous film, GLORIA, was a hit for the film club in January 2014.  The greatest strength of A FANTASTIC WOMAN is transgender actor Daniela Vega in the leading role, who delivers a performance of spellbinding intensity.  The Evening Standard described the film as ‘as good as Almodovar at his best’, while superlatives were the order of the day in other papers.  Chile/Germany/Spain/US 2017.  100 minutes.  In Spanish with English subtitles.
