Amongst a wide ranging and colourful collection of fascinating gardens five are opening for the first time, three in one village as a group, an evening event at a floodlit garden and an amazing plantsman’s garden.

The Red House in Church Street has many rare and unusual plants in a real plantsman’s garden and some will be for sale

The Old Bakehouse at 4 Burnham Road (entry from Wells Road) has an unusual claim to fame as the site of a tragic accident during the Second World War In 1944 a RAF Mosquito aircraft crashed into the garden killing the young pilot and another airman and the engine is still buried deep in the garden. There is a plaque on the garden gate commemorating the 60th anniversary of young men’s deaths. Garden owner Jane Faire said “I feel the garden is in part a memorial to the airmen and somehow there is an obligation to keep it looking at its best”
