When London 2 NE League fixtures were announced for the new season it was inevitable, having battled for promotion against each other all last season, and both been successful in gaining promotion, that these two Clubs would meet at some point during the season but it was quite ironic that they met on the opening day

Southwold Rugby Club wrote a new page in their history yesterday in front of several hundred cheering Wold fans when they smashed Millwall to gain promotion to London 2 North East. That deserved promotion now takes Wold to a higher level of rugby than they have ever played at before and it wasn’t just the fact they won, it was how they won.

West Norfolk opened the scoring on four minutes following a good spell of possession ending in their forwards driving over the Wold line but they missed their conversion from close to the posts following a complete miss kick thanks to the ball being moved by the huge cross wind, just at the wrong moment.

Thetford put the first points on the board after only a minute when Wold were penalised for holding on to the ball in the tackle, and as the kick sailed over from nearly forty metres it seemed Wold would in for a real battle to do the double over the visitors.
