Celebrating summer carnival-style

Old fashioned fun is the theme on the North Norfolk coast this summer, as the region’s major resorts prepare to celebrate the carnival season.

Picturesque Wells-next-the-Sea holds a week of family fun and events from August 1-9, including a medieval day, a ceilidh, sandcastle competition and raft race. The carnival procession featuring floats, fancy-dress, pull-and push-along vehicles will make its way around the town on August 8.

Just along the coast, Sheringham competes for attention with its carnival week running from August 2-9. Beach games, bonny baby competitions and live bands are among the scheduled events, while the not-to-be-missed carnival parade takes place on August 5 and a spectacular firework display brings the week to an end.

As one of the county’s premier holiday resorts, Cromer has a proud tradition of events to entertain visitors, plus all the usual seaside attractions. But this summer promises to be better than ever, as Cromer carnival marks its 40-year milestone with organisers promising to bring back previously popular events such as raft racing, piano-smashing, and knobbly knee competitions, plus a special procession float hosting a reunion of former carnival queens.

Carnival day is August 19 when the town centre will be packed with people – make sure you arrive early to get a good spot along the route! A grand fireworks display and fun fair round off the celebrations at the Runton Road carnival ground on August 20.
