Parents from across Great Yarmouth and Waveney are being urged to take their children to the right place for treatment if they suffer bumps, scrapes or feel unwell this half term.

Health bosses from HealthEast, the clinical commissioning group for Great Yarmouth and Waveney, are reminding people of all the options available to them in the run up to next week’s holiday.

For minor injuries such as scalds, sprains, cuts and strains, people can go to:

• Beccles minor injuries unit, which is based at the town’s hospital on St Mary’s Road and open daily from 8am to 8pm. Call 01502 719821 for more information.
• Halesworth MIU, at Cutler’s Hill Surgery on Bungay Road, which is open from 9am to 5pm on Monday to Friday. You can contact the MIU on 01986 874618.
• Southwold MIU, which is based at Southwold Surgery in York Road. Open on weekdays from 8am to 6.30pm, the unit is available by ringing 01502 722326.

Anyone who needs to be seen immediately but does not have a serious illness or injury can also visit Greyfriars walk-in centre at Phoenix House, Howard Street South, Great Yarmouth, which is open from 8am to 8pm daily and available on 01493 335340.

Pharmacies can also offer advice for a wide range of minor illnesses such as coughs and colds, while the GP out-of-hours service is available for people who need urgent treatment.

Anyone who is unsure of where to go for help, has a question about medication or any other query which cannot wait should call the free 111 number for advice. The number is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Dr John Stammers, chairman of HealthEast, said: “We want everyone to have an enjoyable half term holiday, so are advising anyone who needs medical care to make sure they go to the right place for help.

“By selecting the right service, you will keep the amount of time you wait for treatment to a minimum while ensuring people most in need can access urgent or emergency care.”
