Christmas in Norfolk

The festive season in Norfolk is a wonderful time full of excitement for both youngsters and adults alike. Whether you are looking for somewhere to get away to or enjoying a Christmas in Norfolk with family and friends then this beautiful county has endless things to see and do. Here are half a dozen suggestions:

Shopping in Holt

Holt pulls out all the stops for the festive season and has to be high up on the list for places to enjoy searching for interesting gifts. There is a great range of small independently owned shops and you can stock up on high-quality and difficult to find ingredients for cooking. Afternoon tea in the famous Byfords is recommended during your visit.

Ice-skating at The Forum

The Forum in Norwich holds a number of events throughout the year. Amongst their festive activities they install an outdoor rink which for a small fee you can enjoy (they provide the boots!). Situated in the very heart of Norwich, near the famous outdoor market, you can also enjoy the sights of the historic city and combine with the plethora of different activities on offer.

Mid-Norfolk Railway

With a variety of steam and diesel trains, take a step back in time on the Mid-Norfolk Railway which runs from the idyllic market town of Wymondham to the more urban Dereham. Soak up the spirit of Christmas and give your kids a treat with their Santa special which runs throughout December.

The Bure Valley Railway, Reepham and Whitwell Railway and the North Norfolk Railway also host regular Christmas events such as Mince Pie Specials.

Deepdale Christmas Market

Burnham Deepdale hosts its third annual Christmas market with a variety of stalls and activities on offer. Stalls include traditional toys, clothes, jewellery, books, chocolates, confectionary, real ale and cupcakes amongst many others.

Visit on the 3rd of December 2011 and enjoy the Christmas carol singing between 2pm and 4pm.

Cromer Christmas Market

Cromer is planning to host a Christmas market this year to coincide with the switching on of their Christmas lights. There are rumours of a ‘massive’ laser being shone into the sky to signify the festivities to the surrounding area. Local shops will be opening until late and a number of stalls are planned.

If you are planning a trip to Norfolk with family or friends then Cromer is a lovely place to stay. There are a number of Cromer cottages available for holiday rental.

Wymondham Dickensian Evening

A Dickensian-themed Christmas Fayre organised by the Wymondham Lions Club. Watch Father Christmas travel by sleigh before the mayor arrives to switch on the Christmas lights. Lots of people dress in traditional Dickensian clothing and there is a prize draw for a Christmas hamper. A number of market stalls are present around the old Market Square along with other attractions. Local shops are open until late.
