Clocks, dogs, rap battles and film: Suffolk Libraries Spring picks

With the cold of Winter behind us, Suffolk Libraries are turning their attention to Spring. Whether you’re from Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds or Beccles, Suffolk Libraries provides a whole host of entertaining events to busy your Spring-time.

Selected below are a few upcoming events that are a little more unique than the usual range.

Children aged 11-14 are invited to live their dream of making their own music videos and learn new skills in film-making and editing in a fun and interactive way.

No experience is necessary, all it requires is booking via Chantry Library. This event is funded by Ipswich Borough Council and delicious catering will be provided by the Co-op.

There will also be time to make ruffled collars and a tasty Dr Seuss ‘cat in the hat’ snack to fully appreciate the theme of this event.

Local author Rosalyn Gee and her dog Betsy  Suffolk Libraries Spring

21st March Local author Rosalyn Gee and her dog Betsy

Beccles Library, 2:00 – 3:00

Rosalyn Gee is the author of ‘Tales of Betsy the Wonder Dog’ which recounts the story of the lively and ecstatic Betsy the dog had changed her life for the better. Betsy is described as a “wonder dog” with a “very lively imagination” that saved Rosalyn from bouts of loneliness after settling down into Kessingland village life.
Now, Rosalyn describes every day as an adventure – and by reading her book and coming to the talk, you will see what mischief Betsy gets up to!

Free to attend. No need to book. Free refreshments.

Schrödinger’s Clock® Suffolk Libraries Spring

3rd AprilSchrödinger’s Clock® – Playing With Time’ with Antony Hurden

Bury St Edmunds Library, 10:30 – 11:30

Antony Hurden, drawing on Lewis Carroll for inspiration, ended up inventing a unique clock which plays with time: Schrödinger’s Clock®

This is the latest addition to the clock collection in Moyse’s Hall. It is unique in that it aims to let you play with time by deliberately telling the wrong time – but only some of the time. Antony Hurden will be telling the story behind this clock which draws its inspiration from the works of Lewis Carroll, Salvador Dali, and Albert Einstein.

Moyse’s Hall Museum is the only place in the world where you can see this truly unique clock. It was invented to show that telling the wrong time can be a way to reflect on something we take for granted in the world around us. Antony’s light-hearted talk will make you think more about time as he tells the story behind Schrödinger’s Clock®.

Antony will also be bringing one of his clocks with him.
