Innovative and groundbreaking Norfolk choir invitation to new participants for Festival show

Norfolk’s multi award winning Voice Project Choir are inviting anyone (over 16) who would like to sing to join their new project for the 2018 Norfolk & Norwich Festival. No previous experience of singing is needed.
 
The innovative and groundbreaking choir will perform their newly created show Timepiece on Friday 25 May between noon and midnight at this year?s Norfolk & Norwich Festival. 
 
The May performances will take place on the hour every hour in various parts of the cloisters and garth of Norwich Cathedral. Each will be about 10 minutes long and free to attend except for a special ticketed event in the Cathedral between 9pm and 10pm. The hourly performances will vary in style, some will involve a single voice, others will range from small ensembles to the full choir. As the hours of the day accumulate Timepiece will explore the human relationship with time – illusory, natural and musical; how it affects us, controls us, how we speed it up, slow it down and, crucially, how music helps us to change our perceptions of it.

The 9pm concert will feature the full choir, soloists and instrumentalists with the cathedral atmospherically and spectacularly lit in Voice Project’s trademark style.
 
‘The choir regenerates for each new project and always welcomes new, first time members’ said Co-Director Jonathan Baker. ‘There are no auditions and no previous experience or specialist knowledge is needed, absolutely everyone over 16 is most welcome.’ Anyone who thinks they may be interested can attend a no obligation taster session on Tuesday 13 March or the first of the weekly rehearsals that begin on 20 March. 
 
Jonathan’s fellow Director Sian Croose added ‘A taster session is a perfect way to test if this may be for you. Everyone is in the same boat, just trying out something new with no stress or expectations – but I have to say most seem to love it and decide to commit to the full project there and then!’ 
 
May is set to be a busy month for the Voice Project Choir and its Directors Jonathan Baker and Sian Croose. As well as creating Timepiece for Norfolk & Norwich Festival they have been invited to take their epic 10-hour overnight choral work, The Arms of Sleep, to the Brighton International Festival on 11, 12 and 13 May. There they will present one of their most ambitious and magical productions to date (first seen at Norfolk & Norwich Festival 2017), at the historic Firle Place, one of England’s most beautiful country houses.
 
Previously The Voice Project Choir have taken their unique vision of what a community choir can be to international jazz festivals in mainland Europe, appeared on prime time French TV and had one of their London concerts broadcast on BBC Radio 3. It is now one of the best known choirs in the East of England and beyond, having given many hundreds of singers the opportunity to take part in unique creative performance projects of high quality new vocal music as well as running workshops designed to build confidence and explore a wide variety of uplifting and inspiring music.
