Curtain up for Beccles panto – oh yes it is!
Panto season gets underway in Beccles on Friday after months of planning, casting and rehearsals.
The stage of the town’s Public Hall will be paved with gold as the 14-performance run of Dick Whittington is presented by SparkLive Pantomimes.
Audiences will be treated to a rendition of the classic British tale, which tells the story of a young man and his cat, who make the journey to London to seek fame and fortune.
But with the evil Queen Rat hot on the trail, expect laugh-out-loud comedy, spectacular singing and a huge dollop of festive magic.
Crowd favourite Daniel Hanton is back as Dame Sarah Sweetie, alongside popular comedian Ross Chenery, as Idle Jack.
Laura Watling will spread the fairy dust once again as Fairy Bowbells, while Rebecca Jillings will swap her 2018 role of the gentle Sleeping Beauty to play the villainous Queen Rat.
Jamie Coleman will play Tommy the Cat, the talented Faye Ainley joins SparkLive as Alice Fitzwarren, actor Josh Pickering has been cast as Alderman Fitzwarren and 18-year-old Thomas Major will make his professional debut as Dick Whittington.
The pantomime is sponsored by Sweeties Traditional Sweet Shop, the scenery provided by Scenic Projects and Lowestoft company S&S will be responsible for the sound and lighting.
Ryan Holt, producer and owner of SparkLive Pantomimes, said he was completely overwhelmed by the support they had received ahead of the show.
“We are just so grateful. Aside from it being our fifth year and the fastest selling ever, we have had so many fantastic endorsements about the show on social media.
“We absolutely love having the residency at Beccles and we do try every year to make it our best yet. Expect the largest special effect ever, a very messy stunt and some very interesting outfits from our Dame, who I can assure you will not be on her best behaviour.”
There’s only a handful of tickets left, so book now to avoid disappointment. Pop into the Public Hall between 10am and 3pm, Monday to Saturday, or call the box office on 01502 770060 during these times. Alternatively, visit www.becclespublichall.co.uk
