Don’t be Lonely at Christmas

Beccles Sunday Club has joined with Beccles Lions Club in doing their bit to try and help reduce loneliness at Christmas.

Statistics show that up to half a million older people in Britain will spend Christmas alone this year.

Christmas is a wonderful time of year, a time when families get together, festive food is shared, presents are opened and goodwill is in abundance. But what about all those people for whom Christmas is a reminder of their loneliness, a time of past memories and present sadness, despair and depression?

Many people tell us they have no visitors at all and have the TV on just for the company, others tell us Christmas is just another day or I will be glad when it’s over. To add to the problem most clubs that run throughout the rest of the year close over the holiday period.

The Clubs are providing some festive cheer for those in the local community who face Christmas day alone. There will be a warm welcome at the Waveney Centre, Beccles, for anyone who wishes to come along for lunch.

There will be Christmas carols and plenty of fun but most of all there will be lots of company.
