With just over six weeks to go until the 11th East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival takes place on Oulton Broad in Lowestoft on Sunday 14th May, local companies and organisations have a unique advance opportunity to see a full-size dragon boat and find out more about this spectacular event at an Open Day being held at Hotel Victoria in Lowestoft on Friday 7th April.

Anyone interested in signing up a team to this year’s event is welcome to drop in to the hotel any time between 11am and 3pm. The staff of Festival organisers Gable Events and charity, East Coast Hospice will be on hand to answer questions and visitors will be able to sit in the dragon boat in the hotel garden, raise paddles and beat the drum. Those that have already entered teams are also very welcome to pop down, take photos of team members in the boat and see what is in store for them when they take to the water on Sunday 14th May!

There’s still plenty of time to get a team together for this year’s Dragon Boat Festival and join the entrants so far that include Gold crew James Fisher Marine Services, Silver crews Associated British Ports, Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind and Mumfords of Southwold and standard crews representing Netmatters, Corton Coastal Village, Southwood Hall, Grosvenor Casino, Progress Recruitment Solutions, Bourne Leisure-Gunton Hall, Lovewell Blake and East Coast Hospice.

The Hotel Victoria has kindly donated a special celebratory meal for the team that raises the most sponsorship for East Coast Hospice at the Dragon Boat Festival and has made their lovely Garden Room and garden available for visitors to the Open Day. It’s the perfect venue to relax and dine or simply soak up the stunning sea views and Events & Wedding Co-ordinator, Jade Alexander, is thrilled to be able to help such a worthy cause. She says, “The Hotel Victoria is delighted to be supporting a local event to raise funds towards the wonderful work East Coast Hospice are carrying out in our community”.

At present there are no inpatient hospices in the Waveney and Yarmouth area but East Coast Hospice is working to change this. Margaret Chadd House will support patients and their families to live as well as they can for as long as they can and when the time comes, to support a dignified and peaceful journey at the end of their life.
