Caister Community Cinema

The show will go on at Caister Community Cinema following a £500 donation by the East of England Co-op Funeral Services to fund improvements at the much-loved community facility.

Located at the council hall of the Norfolk seaside resort, Caister Community Cinema made its premiere in February 2017 and has proved popular with audiences of all ages who attend bi-monthly screenings to socialise and enjoy the stars of the silver screen.

Thanks to the donation from the East of England Co-op Funeral Services, organisers of the cinema now plan to install a higher quality audio system to enhance the cinematic experience for audiences.

The partnership between the East of England Co-op Funeral Services branch in Caister and the community cinema has been established by branch Funeral Co-ordinator and familiar local face, Katie Rogers.

Katie, who also volunteers at the cinema, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our branch to engage and support the town. Personally, I really enjoy volunteering and helping with local events, whether it is a Christmas fair, a summer fete or a coffee morning. Being a part of the community I work in is very important to me.”

Run by Caister Parish Council and seven regular volunteers, the cinema opened following a £10,000 grant from the National Lottery and has become a firm town favourite. However, organisers have been experiencing issues with the current audio system which has been prone to breaking down, as a result of not being of the required professional standard, an issue that is set to be rectified thanks to the East of England Co-op’s donation.

“This donation is a great helping hand and allows us to upgrade to a much needed professional audio system,” explained Caister Parish Councillor, Peter Sleet.

“We approached several organisations for financial help to meet the cost of the required improvements but of all those approached, only the East of England Co-op pledged their support. Our thanks go to Katie and her colleagues whose generosity will enable us to continue entertaining in Caister.”
