Great Yarmouth Borough Council to showcase local artists as part of enhanced work to support enterprise and local economy.

A MONTH-LONG exhibition showcasing the work of local artists will start next week as part of a two-year programme of enhanced work by enterpriseGY, Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s business support service, to support enterprise and the local economy.

Earlier this year, the borough council secured £650,000 from the Government’s Coastal Communities Fund. This is being used to expand the scope of its free start-up support, which has helped local people to establish 100 businesses a year for the last two years, in addition to introducing support for existing businesses, and focusing on additional activities to support key sectors, including tourism, energy and retail.

The enterpriseGY Art in the Autumn Exhibition, organised in partnership with the Great Yarmouth Library friends group, is taking place in the gallery at Great Yarmouth Library from Monday, November 2 to Friday, November 27 2015, during normal library opening hours.

As well as encouraging people to visit the borough out of season, the free exhibition aims to give local artists the opportunity to exhibit their work to art-lovers and art-buyers alike, to raise their profile and to benefit from enterpriseGY’s business development service.

The Art in the Autumn exhibition also aims to encourage new artists to consider the potential of becoming self-employed, and to make existing arts “business owners” aware of the wide range of business advice and training services that enterpriseGY can provide free of charge.

Throughout the month, enterpriseGY will provide business guidance to local artists, one day each week, at the library. Plus on Friday, November 20, the library plays host to enterpriseGY’s monthly Enterprise Club networking event, which runs from noon to 2pm.

Cllr Graham Plant, the council leader, said: “The borough council is working through enterpriseGY to foster people’s entrepreneurial spirit, support both existing and start-up businesses, and boost key sectors such as tourism and energy, thereby enhancing the borough as an ‘Enterprise Town’ for business and job creation.

“Earlier this year, enterpriseGY co-ordinated a week of activities during Wind Week, celebrating the borough’s status as a centre of wind energy excellence, as well as inspiring young people and raising awareness of the current and future job opportunities in the sector.

“The Art in the Autumn Exhibition, part of the same programme of enhanced activities, focuses on a different part of the economy. In addition to boosting tourism out of season by giving people another reason to visit, the Art in Autumn Exhibition supports those artists in the borough’s expanding arts and cultural scene, who are seeking to make a business from their talents. I encourage everyone to pay a visit during the month.”
