Renowned Norfolk choir invites everyone to join unique audience sleepover project

Norfolk’s Voice Project Choir are inviting anyone (over 16) who would like to sing (no experience necessary) to join their new project for the 2017 Norfolk & Norwich Festival – and this year’s event will be something really quite special and different. The Arms of Sleep will be an overnight sleepover experience for the audience, with the choir providing music in the evening and morning between approximately 10 and 11pm and 6.30 and 7.30am.

The Arms of Sleep will be held at Norwich’s historic Assembly House where the small audiences of up to 40 people will each be given a comfortable bed, to create a dream–like night of music and stories, sound and images.

There will be a preview on 20 May, followed by performances beginning on the evenings of 22 – 26 May and concluding the following morning.

Voice Project co-Director Sian Croose said ‘We’d like to welcome absolutely anyone over 16 with a desire to sing to join the choir. There are no auditions and all rehearsals are conducted in such a way that no previous experience of singing or music is required.’

Participants will not be expected to be available for every Festival performance ‘We imagine that the choir will be subdivided for some of these, ideally each singer will be available for 5 out of the 10 performance slots with as many as possible available for the final morning on 27th May’ said Sian’s co-Director Jonathan Baker.

This is the second part of their Arms of Sleep trilogy, following on from Beyond Stars at Norwich Cathedral in January. The final section will be the choir’s winter project with The Arms of Sleep also set to be staged at Brighton international Festival in May 2018.
