An informative NHS-led event aimed at family carers will be held next month at the University of East Anglia, School of Nursing in Norwich.
The ‘Carers’ Forum’, which is hosted by Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, will be opened by MP for Norwich South Simon Wright at 10am on 24 August 2012.
The event is aimed at family and friends who care for people with mental ill health. It follows on from similar events held in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft earlier in the year.
Barry Capon, non-executive director for the Trust, who will be attending the event, said:
“The Trust wants to make sure that family carers are a priority at all times. We need to support them in as many ways as we can so that they are able to continue their caring role for our service users and help our staff in their ongoing treatments.
“Events like this are a very good way of informing family carers of the support they can have and to help them understand the nature and treatment of various mental illnesses.”
The day, which runs until 5pm, will include an art exhibition and information stalls from teams around the Trust and mental health partner organisations.
Guest speakers include a multi-million pound business owner with bipolar disorder, and talks include topics such as personality disorders, presented by nurse consultant Annette Duff, schrizophrenia, presented by Dr Gosai and mental health medication by Professor Steve Bazire MBE. Dr Barden will offer tips on self management, Dr Wilson will talk about youth services and Rhonda Beggs will talk about drugs and alcohol.
