Family fun in north Norfolk

From bucket and spade adventures to scrambling over sand-dunes, north Norfolk with its coast and countryside boasts some of the best summer getaways for families.

Here Visit North Norfolk suggests some of the top summertime days out and places to visit:-

Water adventures

Bumping into a Royal or a celebrity on Holkham beach is not uncommon due to its proximity to Sandringham and being used as a film location for movies including Shakespeare in Love. Untamed and inspiring, it’s the perfect place for dog walks, climbing sand dunes and picnics on the beach. Plus, it was voted as one of Visit England’s ‘101 things to do before you go abroad’. Over the road from the beach is Holkham Hall; pop in to the magnificent Palladian mansion for a spot of culture and step back in time in the Bygones Museum. The family-friendly Holkham Country Fair on 27 and 28 July is also worth a visit.

Horsey Mill and Staithe

Searles run six guided Sea Tours from Hunstanton, including the ‘Cliff Lighthouse Tour’ and ‘The Coastal Tour’ taking in panoramic views across The Wash.

Laze on the beach and stop-off at one of the numerous fish and chips shops with good ones in Wells and Cromer, along with the seafood shacks/shops selling fresh seafood like Cromer Crabs, cockles and whelks.

Escape the hustle and bustle of daily life aboard a Herbert Woods boat and enjoy the wide open spaces, sunsets and beauty of the Norfolk Broads in style. Boasts depart from Potter Heigham and are available to hire by the hour.

Spend an afternoon crabbing at hotspots Cromer Pier or Blakeney Quay. Pick up lines, buckets and bacon from many of the nearby shops and get competitive to see who can catch the most!

Travel along the stunning north Norfolk coast in style with Norfolk Green and its Coasthopper Bus. Aimed at reducing car dependency, these little buses frequently service 24 stops along the coastline from Cromer to King’s Lynn. Hop on or off with a roving ticket to maximise your exploration of the area and see the best of the coast.
