creative workshops

Arts charity, Suffolk Artlink, have announced new dates in a series of free arts workshops aimed at adults who care for an adult family member in Lowestoft.

As part of their Around the Table project, Suffolk Artlink are offering family carers a chance to explore food, creativity and culture with like-minded people in regular half day workshops taking place at the Kirkley Centre in Lowestoft.

The new sessions are free of charge and will take place on Thursdays – 7th June, 28th June, 19th July and 23rd August.  More are planned to follow later in the year on a monthly basis.

Workshops will be led by a rich variety of experienced chefs, food-led practitioners and artists.

On Thursday 7th June and 28th June, filmmaker Lewis Wickwar and Vietnamese chef Jaki Clibbon will explore the senses, looking at Vietnamese and Asian herbs.

Later in the summer, on Thursday 19th July and 23rd August, food photographer Jemma Watts and chef Lindsay Wright will introduce the process and practice of baking, combined with decoration and set building for food photography.

Previous workshops have proved a huge success.

Claire, a family carer, said of the first session, held last November: “Really enjoyed it, learning something new. I wouldn’t normally get the chance to meet other adult carers.”

June, another family carer in attendance, added: “It was very good, I can’t wait for more!”

All workshops run from 10am – 12.30pm and take place at the Kirkley Centre, 154 London Rd S, Lowestoft NR33 0AZ.

Participants are welcome to attend as many or as few of the workshops as they are able. No experience is necessary and reasonable travel costs can also be provided.

The long-term aim of Around the Table is to work together towards a carer-led initiative which continues beyond the project’s lifetime.

To book onto any of the workshops, or to find out more, please contact Kasia Don-Daniel, [email protected] / 01986 873955.

Places are limited, so please book in advance to avoid disappointment.
