Generous golfers have raised nearly £4,000 towards an innovative resource centre for people with life-limiting illnesses after taking to the fairways during a special charity competition at Halesworth Golf Club.

Halesworth Community Nursing Care Fund (HCNCF) hosted its fourth annual golf day at Halesworth Golf Club at the end of August. A putting contest and raffle were held in addition to the main competition, together raising a total of £3936.

The money will go towards construction and running costs of the Pear Tree Centre, which will be built on land next to Cutlers Hill Surgery in Halesworth. 

Open to people from across south Norfolk and north east Suffolk, the centre will bring a full range of holistic services closer to home for patients with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses and their families. This includes benefits advice, support for children and families, complementary therapies, help understanding a diagnosis, counselling and bereavement support. 

Ted Edwards, co-chair of the Pear Tree Centre project, said: “We would like to thank everyone who supported our golf competition so generously, and especially Halesworth Golf Club for their tremendous help organising the event.

“The day really did go with a swing and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We had some really positive feedback from those taking part, while we were also incredibly lucky with the weather.

“We are delighted that we raised such a great sum which will make a real difference to people living in Halesworth and the surrounding area when the Pear Tree Centre opens next year.”

The team competition was won by ‘The First XI’, which was made up of Andrew Niven, Martin Trimby, Craig Anderson and Paul Weightman. The individual competition was won by Anthony Smith.
