Gig in the Park – 2007

Organizers of Gig in the Park, an annual community music event held in the town park Halesworth have this week released details of the headline acts booked to appear at the festival. To be held August 3rd – 5th this years festival will be headlined by the amazing Echo and the Bunnymen.

halesworth gig in the parkEcho and the Bunnymen hit mainstream success in the mid 80’s with their hit single ‘The Cutter’ which enjoyed top ten success. Their subsequent album ‘Porcupine’ charted at number 2 in 1983 spawning the hit singles ‘The Killing Moon’ and ‘Seven Seas’ The band still continue to play major festivals around the UK.

halesworth gig in the parkSupporting them on the Saturday will be Blues/rock outfit The Hamsters who return by popular demand following their show stopping performance at the 2005 festival.

halesworth gig in the parkThe Dojo drummers, a Japanese drum troupe with an amazing reputation and string of European festival appearances to their name also appear on the Saturday.

halesworth gig in the parkFriday headliner, Neville Staple will guarantee to have the crowds dancing. The former singer with The Specials and founder member of Fun Boy Three has been credited by critics of changing the face of pop music not once but twice.

halesworth gig in the parkSupporting will be Ska Acoustica who will be playing a selection of Ska hits in an ‘unplugged’ stye. Ska Acousitca features Rhoda Dakar, the former singer of Ska band The Bodysnatchers, Jeannie Bellestar formerly of The Bellestars, Nick Welsh former bass player with The Beat and General Public and Dave Wakeling singer with The Beat and General Public.

halesworth gig in the parkAudioporn also make a welcome return by public demand after presenting their concept show ‘Tank’ at the 2005 festival to critical acclaim.

halesworth gig in the parkSunday headliner will be acclaimed Blues practitioners The Blues band. Formed by former Manfred Mann vocalist Paul Jones in 1979 the band will need no introduction to blues fans with some 16 albums to their name they are still in hot demand as a touring band.

There will be a full supporting line up over the three days on three stages featuring both local bands and those from further afield and organizers have again been deluged with demos of bands wanting to appear. Advance tickets will go on sale at the end of June and full details will appear on the gig website www.giginthepark.co.uk as they are confirmed.
