Golfers from across Norfolk and Suffolk are being invited to sign up for a special charity golf day tournament and take to the fairways to raise funds to develop an innovative centre for people with life-limiting illnesses.

Halesworth Community Nursing Care Fund (HCNCF) will host the competition at Halesworth Golf Club on Wednesday 13 May in aid of the £714,000 Information and Support Centre (ISC) project. Open to teams of four, a range of cash prizes worth nearly £700 will be on offer, including prizes for nearest the pin and longest drive.

Friends and families are also welcome to attend and offer support, join in with a putting competition, take part in the raffle and enjoy a buffet lunch and other refreshments.

The day has been arranged to raise money towards the ISC, which aims to bring a full range of holistic services closer to home for patients with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, their families and carers. This includes benefits advice, wig-fitting, children and family support, complementary therapies, help understanding a diagnosis, counselling and bereavement support.

The appeal has now surpassed the 60% mark, with the current total standing at over £445,000.

Ted Edwards, ISC chairman, said: “We are keen for as many golfers as possible to join us on 13 May and help our charity tournament really go with a swing.

“There will be lots happening during the day, with putting competitions, refreshments, information displays and a raffle taking place to help keep supporters entertained while the golfers hit the fairways. We’ve also got some fantastic prizes lined up thanks to the generosity of individuals and local businesses, and are also grateful to Halesworth Golf Club for their support.

“We would encourage anyone with an interest in golf who is keen to support our fantastic ISC project to sign up and enjoy a bit of friendly competition while raising vital funds for charity at the same time.”

Ben Townsend, manager of Halesworth Golf Club, said: “We always do our best to support local charities and good causes, and are delighted that we can continue that strong tradition by helping HCNCF arrange this fantastic golf event.

“We are really looking forward to the day and would encourage golfers from across Norfolk and Suffolk to take part, tee off and help make sure this charity event is a success.”

Entry costs £39 per player, to include bacon butties on arrival and lunch. The maximum handicap is 24 for men and 36 for ladies.

For more information or to sign up, contact Ted Edwards on 01986 784393 or [email protected] or ask at the Halesworth Golf Club shop.

Closing date for entries is 30 April.
