Generous golfers hand over charity cash

Generous golfers at Halesworth Golf Club have donated more than £2,000 to Halesworth Community Nursing Care Fund (HCNCF) after both club captains chose HCNCF as their charity for 2016.

Club captain Ian Stannard and ladies captain Sally McCoy raised £1,812.35 through club competitions and from social nights, while an extra £300 was raised through an Elvis night and hugely popular race nights hosted by golf club member Rob Sherington.

The latest donation also comes after the club hosted a golf competition last summer, which raised more than £4,000 for the charity.

As the ISC campaign has met its £710,000 fundraising target, the money will be earmarked to pay for running costs once the building is open next year.

Ted Edwards, ISC chairman, said: “We would like to thank club manager Ben Townsend, Ian, club professional Richard Davies, Sally and all of the staff and members at Halesworth Golf Club who have so kindly supported our charity over the past 12 months.

“Their continued generosity means that we will soon be able to start building work on this important facility, which will make a real difference to people from across north east Suffolk and south Norfolk.”

The ISC will bring a full range of holistic services closer to home for patients with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, their families and carers. This includes benefits advice, children and family support, complementary therapies, help understanding a diagnosis, counselling and bereavement support.

It will be open to people from across south Norfolk and north east Suffolk who live within a 15-mile radius of Halesworth.

Mr Stannard, 2016 captain, said: “It’s a huge team effort from everyone involved at Halesworth Golf, and I would like to thank them all for their hard work and support throughout the year.

“It’s great to be able to support a charity which is going to benefit the local community and I’m very pleased to say that the HCNCF will also be the charity that all sections at the golf club raise money for throughout 2017.”
