Leading Norfolk law firm Hansells Solicitors and Financial Advisers is continuing its sponsorship for the fourth consecutive year, of Norwich Philharmonic Society, which is marking its 175th season.

Norwich Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus is presenting a special 175th Birthday Concert at St Andrews Hall, Norwich on Saturday 19 March, at 7.30pm, with a night of orchestral and popular classics. The concert features work by 10 composers including Elgar, Handel and Tchaikovsky.

Roger Holden, Managing Partner at Hansells Solicitors and Financial Advisers, said he was proud to be the sponsor of the Norwich Phil Society, underlining the firm’s commitment to supporting music and the arts in the region.

He said: “It is marvellous that the Norwich Phil is celebrating its 175th season with a magnificent series of concerts. The programme for the Birthday Concert is superb. Sir Edward Elgar, one of the featured composers, was an important client for Hansells.

“The Norwich Phil is a highly-professional orchestra and choir; it stages wonderful concerts and is a very important element of the cultural heritage of the city with such deep roots in Norwich and Norfolk, and we see our sponsorship as helping sustain that.

“The orchestra, like Hansells, has been part of Norfolk for a long time – we were founded in 1827, the Philharmonic Society in 1839 – so between us there is longevity and continuity.”

Norwich Philharmonic Society chairman Caroline Dixey said: “The sponsorship from Hansells is very important to us, particularly now that the support has been continuing over several years.

“That continuity helps us with programme planning which means that we can be more ambitious and put on a varied programme. The sponsorship helps underpin that.”

Michael Nutt, chairman of the Orchestra sub-committee, said: “We are grateful to our fantastic audiences who support us but without the sponsorship from Hansells we would not be able to perform such ambitious pieces.

“Our exciting programme of concerts involves top soloists, big pieces for orchestra and leading musicians and it is the input from our sponsors which enables us to do that.”
