Happy 9th Birthday Deepdale Backpackers & Camping

March the 1st the 9th birthday of the multi-award winning and hugely successful Deepdale Backpackers & Camping.

9 years ago to the day, guests were arriving for the opening party, which included fireworks, dodgems and a proper backpackers BBQ.

That first year about 5,000 people came to stay in the backpackers hostel, campsite and group hostel.

9 years on, Deepdale welcomes over 50,000 visitors each year and goes from strength to strength.

This month sees the opening of the new Woodview tipi & yurt field, meaning the glamping offering on the north Norfolk coast is wonderfully catered for.

The backpackers hostel still offers great value ensuite rooms and the camping is more popular now than it’s ever been. The tipis and yurts are busy throughout the year, who wouldn’t want to sleep in luxury with a woodburning stove and glorious views of Deepdale Farm.

Louise and Andrea who have run the tourism side of Deepdale Farm for over 3 years, have made their home in Norfolk having moved down from the North West. They’ve joined the growing number of tenants in Deepdale, running diverse businesses from clothing shops to Deepdale Café and nature viewing to local artwork.

“We and our dogs love this part of the world and are enjoying welcoming people to our hostels and campsite. There’s not much better than discovering the north Norfolk coast at any time of year and to be able to live and work here is perfect.” said Louise Smith.

Deepdale Cycle Hire will also be open by Easter, run by Alyson who has decided to start her own business after years in teaching. One Stop Nature Shop opened it’s door just before Christmas, run by Richard and offering everything you need for enjoying the incredible nature on the North Norfolk Coast.

“Burnham Deepdale, with just 40 permanent residents, used to be a sleepy part of the north Norfolk coast. Now the place is buzzing, and Deepdale Backpackers & Camping and the shops and café of Dalegate Market are a major hub of the north Norfolk coast.” said Jason Borthwick, son of the father and son team that have developed the facilities. “We’ve enjoyed developing Deepdale and there are still lots of ideas in the pipeline!”

With the 10th Anniversary happening in 2013 and the new ideas developing nicely, there will be lots more news from Deepdale over the next few years.
