Head Out, Not Home this summer and enjoy FREE Street Entertainment in Norwich city centre.
Norwich streets to come alive with free Street Entertainment
Just over a month since the end of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival, the city will once again come alive with free live music from local bands and entertainment from world famous Covent Garden street performers.
Launching on Thursday 5 July, the Head Out, Not Home summer events programme – organised by Norwich Business Improvement District (BID) in conjunction with NORCA – will enliven the city centre with a burst of music and entertainment for 10 weeks.
Each Thursday evening (weather permitting), across five different city centre locations between 16:40 and 20:00 there will be something for the entire family to enjoy.
Visitors to the city can expect to see Gentleman’s Walk, London Street, St Gregory’s Green, Westlegate/Ber Street and new for 2018 Norwich Arts Centre Front Lawn buzzing with vibrant music and street entertainment.
Covent Garden street performer, Holy Kapow will kick start proceedings at 16:40 on London Street. They will be joined at locations around the city with live music from Ebb Tide, Granny’s Attic, The Brass Monkeys and TWA Flex Diamond will present Libby Watson, Perry Cooke and Vision.
Stefan Gurney, Executive Director of Norwich BID said, “The Head Out, Not Home extravaganza is now in its sixth year and during that time has established itself as a major cultural entertainment festival in the city centre’s calendar and has a keen following! We’re looking forward to welcoming the vast array of vibrant musicians and street performers to Norwich this summer. Thursday evenings for the next 10 weeks are not to be missed, there will be so much to see and do, remember to Head Out, Not Home and have some fun.”

The Fabulous Kapow Sisters
The Fabulous Kapow Sisters were raised in a beetroot factory on the outskirts of Minsk, they are of an indeterminate age, shoe size and IQ. It is suspected they are responsible for many a kerfuffle in city centres and at festivals. With over 20 years performing experience Fabulous Kapow Sisters shows are a thing of rare beauty and aching laughter but that must be tempered with a word of warning… they are not female and there is only one of them… Approach with caution!
Westlegate/BerStreet – 17:00, 18:10, 19:20
The Brass Monkeys
“An eclectic, improvising, brassy band influenced by jazz, blues, reggae, country, free improvisation, soul, folk …… Performing an exciting mix of original material and unusual classics, the band offers a reverent but iconoclastic take on the history of musical improvisation”.
The Brass Monkeys have just reformed with a mix of some of the UK’s most exciting players to explore the textures and timbres that a group of excellent improvisers can bring to this music.

Ebb tide
Indie-Nu-Folk: Thunderous and tender in equal measure, with a passion to charge your soul from. Local BBC Radio performers described as “the East’s answer to Seth Lakeman” at “Live & Unsigned” where they were national O2 finalists. Compared to Bombay Bicycle Club, Mumford & Sons (by Sony UK), credited with helping to popularise modern folk music (Future Music), and appreciated personally by Kate Bush. (formerly known as Crumbs for Comfort).

TWA Flex Diamond
TWA is a newly established agency aiming to work with various clients from a young age to when they are making their fully professional debut. TWA will be bringing to Head Out Not Home three young local musicians: Libby Watson – Libby is a young singer and actress with past experience in a range of shows and musicals. She performs a huge range of pieces and adds character to everything she sings to bring the message or story; Perry Cooke UK – Perry is a 15 year old student who appeared on The Voice Kids UK, managing to reach the semi finals! ; Vision – Vision is a singer songwriter with a creative and distinctive style, meaningful lyrics and stand out vocals. Vision performs a range of covers and catchy originals that incorporate different styles and genres to deliver a memorable performance.

Granny’s Attic
Granny’s Attic are a folk trio who play the tradition with verve, energy and their own inimitable style. These three young men are all exceptional musicians, fine singers and play a range of English, Irish and Scottish traditional music as well as their own compositions. Formed in 2009, they have since played at clubs and festivals up and down the country, and have been heralded for their lively performances and maturity beyond their years in their delivery and selection of traditional songs.
