Festive Highlights in Suffolk

Kentwell Hall’s Dickensian Christmas returns on 7, 8, 14, 15, 21 and 22 December 2013 and takes visitors back to the charming world of Charles Dickens. Visitors will see the house set-up for Christmas, meet Santa, get insights into a Victorian Christmas, learn how to make Victorian-style Christmas decorations and wreaths, plus be entertained in the Victorian music hall.

On Thursday 21st November 2013 at 4.45pm, Santa is replacing his sleigh in favour of a barge when he sails into town to arrive in Ipswich on historic boat SB Victor! From the quayside Santa will then board a Fire Engine to drive him to his grotto on Princes Street. Visit him in his grotto and browse stalls and watch the light show at Ipswich Christmas Market on Cromwell Square from Thursday 21stto Sunday 24th November 2013.

Bury-St-Edmunds-Christmas-Fayre-2013

Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre between 28th November and 1st December 2013 includes over 300 stall holders, plus festive performances from street entertainers. The Cathedral will offer ‘Shopper’s Carol Services’ on Friday and Saturday at noon, 1.30pm and 3pm and a ‘Living Nativity’ can be found in the Cathedral Courtyard. Food Safari is holding a Christmas Breads one day course on 7th December 2013 for £160 pp at its converted barn at Saxmundham.A hands-on course, learn how to bake mini Christmas puddings, stolen and baked festive goods from all around the world. The course includes lunch with wine.

Snape Maltings offers a range of shops, galleries, farmers’ markets, holiday homes and eateries all set by the River Alde.  Look out for the Vintage ‘Cool Yule’ Market on Sunday 24th November 2013 which will bring together a collection of stalls stacked with unusual Christmas gift ideas, high-end crafts and unique pieces, a little bit of vintage and a taste of tempting seasonal foods to buy. Free entry.

A real yuletide treat awaits at Ickworth House at Bury St Edmunds with its Ickworth Christmas Sparkle event on 7th, 8th, 14th and 15th December 2013. Make decorations, crackers and treats, hear fireside stories, share gifts with Father Christmas and listen to heavenly choirs lifting the roof of the Rotunda. Plus, on 8th December there is a special Christmas Wreath workshop taking place.11am to 4pm.
