All the gardens are raising money for vital nursing and caring charities and the NGS is the largest donor for Macmillan Cancer Support. Natalie Marshall, Macmillan fund raising manager, said “Every day in Norfolk 14 people are hit with the devastating news they have Cancer, it will be the toughest fight they will ever have to face.  Add to that Norfolk is mainly a rural area and patients will often face isolation from local support and  have the stress of travelling long journeys for Cancer treatment.  The NGS donated £550,000 last year to Macmillan Cancer Support , this has enabled us to be there for people every step of the way giving, medical, practical, emotional and financial support to those affected by Cancer.  We have invested over £500,000 this year on Community Nurses and Support Workers to cover rural areas around Norfolk, over £300,000 on training local GP’s around Norfolk in early diagnostics and support and £35,000 on training General Practice Nurses and will endeavour to invest to make our services accessible to all throughout the County.

Currently there are 36,000 people living with and beyond cancer in our fine County and by 2030 that figure will rise to 68,000.  No one should face Cancer alone and thanks to the help and support of organisations such as the National Gardens Scheme, no one should have to”.
