Bassekou Kouyate is one of the true masters of the ngoni, an ancient traditional lute found throughout West Africa, and is respected as one of Africa’s premier global artists.

His band, Ngoni Ba, includes ngoni players (featuring ngonis with differing tonal sizes), percussionists (talking drum, Yabara, Calebasse) and the fantastic singer Amy Sacko.

Bassekou is recognised as both an innovator and a stronghold of traditional Malian music, and has collaborated with the likes of Ali Farka Toure, Toumani Diabate, Taj Mahal, and The Kronos Quartet, and in 2016 joined the Africa Express tour along with Damon Albarn and Paul Weller.

Since the release of his acclaimed 2020 album ‘Where The World Is Thin’, Kris has worked on the Lost Spell Songs project with Julie Fowlis, Karine Polwart, Sekou Keita and Jackie Morris, won another BBC Radio 2 Folk Award (taking the total to 7), won ‘Album of The Year’ at the Scots Trad Music Award 2021 and toured with Lau.

Best known for their 1999 pub anthem ‘Tequila’, as well as ‘Oblivion’, ‘Perseverance’, ‘Bad Actress’ and ‘Middle Man’, Terrorvision’s breakthrough record How to make friends and influence people spawned five top-30 singles during 1994, catapulting the band into the mainstream.

The follow up album, Regular Urban Survivors, was released in 1996, went gold and notched up four more Top-30 singles, including Perseverance, which debuted at number 5 on the UK charts.

For 50 years the Pasadena Roof Orchestra have been re-creating the sounds of a golden era of music from the 1920s and 1930s to widespread acclaim.

Enjoy beautifully arranged songs from Irving Berlin, Ray Noble, Cole Porter and their contemporaries and relive the electrifying hot jazz from Fletcher Henderson and Duke Ellington.

Presenting the show, and putting on the top hat and tails, is the suave singer and band leader Duncan Galloway.  So, pack up your troubles, come on get happy and enjoy ad evening of live music, with a dash of wit.
